This is an old hotel (1930s) in the mountain town of Fairplay Colorado. Quaint, a little rustic, but our stay (1 night) was quite pleasant. Everything worked fine and the breakfast (an additional $15) was delicious - fresh fruit, a choice of freshly cooked egg dishes, meats and pastry. In a throwback to an earlier time, no TVs in the rooms (no hardship for us). Staff are delightful. We will stay there when we pass that way again

The staff is excellent and the decor is perfect for the historic house. The breakfast was not included. The first bed and breakfast I’ve been to where there was a charge for breakfast. The mattress was very uncomfortable and old.

Such a wonderful stay in an historic hotel. Everyone working there was warm and inviting. Breakfast was great! The views of the Platt River were fantastic and it was a real treat to have the opportunity to explore historic Fairplay. Would 100% return!

Stop in for a stay!

I needed a good place to stay when I was traveling in from our west. I was wanting to head to Pikes Peak in the morning. They were able to take my reservation and hold my room for a late arrival.The room was clean and comfortable. It was old timey style, each room with a theme. I got the Rancher, it felt like a Clint Eastwood western. I really enjoyed that, however it meant all the way. I was a bit worried that coming in late as I was, I would disrupt the other guests. What I mean is that, the stairs and floor boards were loud. The place was beautiful though and the breakfast was nice. It was truly an experience and I would definitely stay again.

This old, historic hotel is lovely. Nice, comfortable sitting rooms both downstairs and upstairs where you can read in peace and quiet. Cute little gift shop. In heart of Fairplay. Comfortable beds. Delicious breakfast.

Really nice stay!

This vintage bed and breakfast was a great stay. Room was comfy and clean, breakfast was great, and the back porch was awesome for relaxing and wildlife viewing (lots of beavers in the lake and TWO black bears!) Would definitely stay again!

I love this place. It is a real "old time" hotel. The building dates to the gold rush, and it opened as a hotel in 1932. The room is tiny, but has incredible old time charm. If you want the standard, modern, cookie-cutter hotel experience, take the interstate from the Denver to Santa Fe. If you want a real, authentic, once in a lifetime experience, take the back roads, savor the mountains and back country scenery, and stay overnight in Fairplay at the Hand. Fairplay is at 9,953 ft and has a population of 724. This is the real deal!

This hotel is a fun place to stay while in FairPlay. It has shops attached and the room was spacious enough and well furnished. The building is old and creaks when walking upstairs. It has quite the welcoming personality. It is off Main Street and has a number of neighboring shops and eateries. Parking is on the street but was sufficient while we visited on a holiday weekend. The hotel was full but did not seem crowded at all. The team helping us was top notch and friendly. I will stay here again when in the area.

A few things to know

If you like rustic, historical places, this would be for you. I stayed here on my way through town and I like to support local small businessesas much as possible. The check in person was nice and tried to be accommodating. Since this is a historical building, there's no elevators and all of the rooms are on the second level. There is a dining and lounge area downstairs. The rooms have very worn and mismatched "whimsical" furniture. There's no closet, but there's an open armoire type of thing. No chair inside the room. The hardwood floors are in dire need of repair, refinishing and sealing. The bathroom has rolled laminate flooring. The window in my room didn’t have a screen, so bugs got in. There's no A/C, but there's a ceiling fan. Once I turned the fan on and opened the window, it cooled off quickly and became less stuffy. I did love the locally handmade soap in the bathroom. With some investment, (repair/replace the flooring and update the furnishings to be a bit more cohesive), this would be really cute! I cannot comment on the breakfast portion because they didn’t start serving until 7:30 (which is a bit late) and I had to leave by 6am. They had an assortment of teas and looked like they have coffee.

Staff were amazing! Breakfast was so good! It’s a really cute place. Some things to know - it’s rustic. There is no elevator and all the rooms are upstairs. There is no air conditioning and windows open but don’t have screens. But such a nice location and we really enjoyed our stay.

When you stay at the Hand you're steeped in western history. It's a great old town with lots of shops for unique jewelry and works of art. There are no tv's, no phones in the rooms. A big plus in my opinion. And there's hiking, fishing, shopping all in a short walk from the hotel. Even a bear spotted while I was there. Go there for a relaxing stay among friendly staff.
