Stand at the core of this public sculpture to hear amplified sounds of the sea and stay to watch the sun go down.

The Elogio del Horizonte is a magnificent work of art that faces out across the Bay of Biscay from the peak of the Santa Catalina Hill. This public monument was constructed by famous Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida Juantegui. Lay down a blanket on a grassy knoll of the verdant Cerro de Santa Catalina Park and enjoy the vista of the sparkling blue sea and the Asturian coastline.

Snap photos of the sculpture, which is composed of large stone pillars whose tops are linked by a horizontal horseshoe. The arch looks like an uncompleted circle, adding to its modern aesthetic. Realize that if you stand in the center of the structure, the sound of the wind and the waves at the bottom of the cliff are intensified. The experience makes you feel as though the elements are swirling around your head.

Relax on the grass and stay for the sunset, when the sky begins to take on a range of dark red and yellow hues. The Elogio del Horizonte monument serves as the ideal frame for the sunset vista. Enjoy the utter tranquility in this quiet spot at the summit of a hill.

Go on a hike through the scenic undulating terrain of the Cerro de Santa Catalina Park. Enjoy the varying views and spot the Puerto de El Musel and San Lorenzo Beach. Encounter the Nordeste sculpture by artist Joaquín Vaquero Turcios.
