Independent Crater Lake hotels

"My husband and I recently had a wonderful experience staying in Union Creek Resort while visiting Crater Lake and the surrounding area. Lodge room are clean, quaint and rustic in a beautiful setting. We had no issues with the shared bathrooms. Stayed two nights and never encountered another occupant. Love that its sets right near the creek. Could hear the sound of the rushing water in our room. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Room have no TV, internet and wifi is not the greatest. Would highly recommended, unless you can absolutely not live without TV or internet!! We would like to reserve a cabin the next time we visit."

"Ok, the person I met at reception was friendly. But after that it went down hill fast. The whole building seems very run down and the walls very thin. I could hear conversations in the next room easily. There was no kettle/coffee maker, just a rusty microwave and small fridge. The better parts of my experience were the shower, which seemed a recent renovation project and the bed, which was very comfortable. However the room was extremely noisy, with loud traffic noise all night from big rigs and trucks passing regularly disturbing my sleep. From the pictures, it looks quaint and “old world” but I shouldn’t have believe those pictures, in my opinion it’s very overpriced and would still be, even at half the price I paid."

"Showed up to a closed darkly lit property on a remote highway. The check in instructions directed me to find an envelope with check in info in front of store. No envelope no people. I called office and after hour numbers to get help and no answer. I texted no answer. I called Travelocity to get help and finally got a text back from office with check in info. Get into the room which was nice, but no WiFi Had no WiFi for the entire stay. Wouldn’t return "

"Pros: Check-in was keyless and easy. Beds were fine, kitchen was well stocked with tools for cooking. The lake views were also a draw for sure, and it was quiet. Cons: It was a hot day and the inside of the house was VERY warm (88 F). Despite what was advertised, there is NOT central AC. There is a small mobile Toshiba unit in the back bedroom, but it was off. When we turned it on it leaked and sprayed water everywhere (which someone knew, because there was a towel on the floor under it). No instructions were provided about what to do, and multiple calls to the manager went unanswered until almost 1 AM that night. The manager eventually texted at 10:15 the next day saying to close the windows and use the broken Toshiba. Our only other options were one fan with a taped-up cord, and a switch for a whole-house fan that didn’t work. Eventually we looked up the AC model online and found instructions for how to drain it. A hassle that had to be repeated every 3 hours day and night if it was to operate at all, but it was not capable of cooling other rooms. There were also dead gnats and spiderwebs everywhere. They know it’s not clean and have a note on the fridge asking guests to complain directly to them since there’s no cleaning fee. But this was days/weeks of gnats, not a one-off hiccup. It is also worth noting (though this is mentioned in the listing) that the water here is brown and sulfurous, so a water cooler is provided. "
