  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

It's nice that Loyalty Inn (previously Motel 6) added a pool and has a nice staff. Unfortunately that's about the only good thing. There's no hot water, no mini fridge, and it took over an hour to find the correct remote to the television.

I scheduled a three day stay and could only stay for one night. The refrigerator did not work well and my food spoiled. The toilet was not flushing then completely stopped working. When I informed staff, they told me they didn't have another room and they could not help me. I told them that I would have to check out early and they said that they don't refund. I called the site I used to book the hotel and they had trouble contacting them as well. Door bolt lock was broken off. The peep hole was just a hole with tape over it. The vent above was leaking fluid. The shower was dirty and there were roaches.

Give them a chance

You can tell theyre trying. One room was further along in renovations then the other. Warmest, softest comforters weve had at a motel stay ever. Front desk was super nice. We will be back to see their success

Place was run down and nasty. Blanket on the bed was at least 10 years old. Cobbeled together furnishing. Electrical appliances hanging by wire out of the walls. Struggled to get anything we needed from the staff like the pillows that were not in the room or towels and washclothes. The refrigerator was not plugged in and smelled like something died in it. And finally noticed roaches on the last day. I would not have stayed here but had no choice because dident have to money to pay for a new room wile waiting for refund to come. -1 out of 10 stars. This place should be shut down....
