  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

The rooms were in good condition although it was a little inconvenient having to change rooms. Also the staff were mostly quiet and kept to themselves. We are still waiting on our deposit to be returned.

One of our most favourite hotels in our 4 wk stay. Very spacious, modern room with a comfortable bed. Bathroom was gorgeous! A huge vanity, with great lighting. Lots of variety at breakfast, including a full cooked breakfast. Staff were very helpful. Convenient parking, and on-site washing facilities.

Efficient check in, room and facilities in general appeared clean, bed reasonably comfortable. We had only one bath towel in our room and towels were rather thin and insubstantial. Breakfast had a nice variety of food and the breakfast area was clean.

Yes, by far one of the cleanest and well kept properties that we have had the pleasure of staying at, for sure. And also one of the best tasting breakfast bars in the mornings that weve had the enjoyment of attending and filling our bellies up on, yes quite good due to the circumstances and weather. You see I happen to have fractured my sternum the day before our departure to Obetz. But due to our quick accomadations to your wonderful little nook, we were able to pay our respects to the family of our dear friend Lee Gunderson, who passed away suddenly this past week, may he RIP, AMEN!!! Although this was a Sad occasion, somehow Holiday Inn Express always seems to try and help you get through rough spots of your Trip, honestly they really do. And so as always our Travels are made a little less painful during these kind of Occasions, and as always we send our upmost strongest Thanks during our time of need for Sympathy and Hardship. Nice staff, nice location, clean and comfy

Great location by the Zucchini Festival for the weekend! It was so nice and clean inside the lobby and the rooms were also very clean and updated! Breakfast was way better than expected. Caitllin at the front desk was so helpful and friendly when we arrived and made us feel so welcome. The only negative was that a new Dunkin was being built right beside the hotel and wasn't open yet, lol!
