Medina of Chefchaouen

Chefchaouen's ancient medina captivates visitors with its striking blue-washed buildings against dramatic mountain backdrops. Narrow cobblestone streets wind through this pedestrian-only district where centuries of Moroccan and Andalusian influences thrive. Plaza Uta el-Hammam buzzes with local energy around its iconic kasbah and mosque. Traditional artisans display handwoven textiles and pottery in small workshops throughout the labyrinth of azure alleyways. Rooftop cafés offer mint tea and mountain views. The medina's authentic character reveals itself in morning calls to prayer and evening family gatherings.

Souika

Souika's labyrinth of blue-washed alleys transports you into Chefchaouen's distinctive Andalusian-Moroccan heritage. The historic kasbah offers panoramic mountain views while narrow cobblestone streets wind past artisan workshops. Plaza Uta el-Hammam buzzes with local life around its ancient plane trees. Vibrant souks showcase handcrafted textiles, leather goods, and spices sold by local artisans. Traditional riads with peaceful courtyards offer authentic stays amid this cultural enclave. This pedestrian-only neighborhood invites exploration at a leisurely pace. Plaza Uta el-Hammam and Bab el Ain provide cultural anchors amid the azure labyrinth. Mountain views frame rooftop terraces where visitors enjoy mint tea. The peaceful atmosphere makes El Kharrazine perfect for photographers and culture enthusiasts.

El Hafa

El Hafa offers one of Chefchaouen's most authentic experiences, where local families maintain traditional blue-washed homes along quieter hillside streets. This established neighborhood sits above the main medina, providing genuine glimpses into daily Riffian life amid the famous blue architecture. Visitors can observe traditional life as residents go about their daily routines - children playing in small squares, women chatting on doorsteps, and men gathered at neighborhood tea houses. Local corner shops sell everyday goods alongside occasional handicrafts, offering a more authentic shopping experience than the tourist-focused area.

Ain Haouzi

In Ain Haouzi, traditional whitewashed buildings with striking blue accents create a tranquil backdrop to authentic Moroccan life. This welcoming residential neighborhood sits away from Chefchaouen's tourist bustle, offering glimpses into everyday local customs. Narrow cobblestone alleys wind between low-rise homes featuring beautiful Andalusian architectural details. Dar Jasmine

Dar Jasmine

8/10 Good
"Stayed one night at Dar Jasmine in Chefchaouen. Room was spacious, beautifully decorated, with an incredible view over the city. Staff were warm and helpful -even packed us a to-go breakfast for an early ferry departure. Stairs: ~150-200 steps from the street up to the hotel, no alternate route. Not workable for anyone with mobility issues or unsteady footing - same goes for Chefchaouen's hillside streets generally. Noise: Dogs bark/howl in the hills at night, more than once even in our one night. Not the hotel's fault, but light sleepers should bring earplugs. Access: The main road was closed (partial collapse) during our stay, so we were dropped at an alternate point roughly a 10-min walk from the stairs. On arrival, midday in full sun, we opted for a tuk-tuk to cover that stretch instead of walking - glad we did. On departure, no tuk-tuk was available, so we walked it with a staff member rolling our bags. At this price point, we'd expect that arranged automatically both ways. Pickup: We emailed asking for a driver to meet us off the Tarifa ferry, shop in Tangier, then bring us to Chefchaouen, + return pickup next morning. Hotel arranged it - very helpful. One hiccup: language barrier meant we didn't know our driver couldn't enter the port area, so we spent 30+ min finding him. Once connected, he was great. Ask for an exact meeting point. Final: Beautiful, great staff, genuinely helpful with logistics - just confirm transfer details ahead of time & know stair commitment."

"Everything about this hotel was amazing — the staff, service, cleanliness, atmosphere, and overall experience were all excellent. I genuinely enjoyed my stay and felt very comfortable from the moment I arrived. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend is choosing the mountain view room. Personally, I found the view a little disappointing compared to the rest of the experience. I’d definitely recommend choosing a different view if possible. Other than that, everything was wonderful, and I would happily stay here again!"

"The staff was so lovely and welcoming. The room was well appointed and simply decorated. It is well located in the bottom half of the Medina which is helpful for people with walking difficulties. Chaouen is not made for those actually, the stairs are steep and the streets are unevenly paved."

"A very nice, beautifully decorated, comfortable B&B in the heart of Chefchaouen. Helpful polite personnel, delicious breakfast and complimentary tea at night on roof terrace with awesome views. Location is very convenient close to great shopping and dining (CHEF-CHAOUEN RESTAURANT is the best!). Inexpensive parking is available near Parador Hotel or down the street (it is not possible to drive to Iguana Azul due to its location in the Medina). The only issue we had was the refrigerator. It was not cooling for some reason although it was on. We highly recommend this hotel for couples or solo travelers visiting beautiful Chefchaouen. It is a good value and a great place to stay in the Blue City."
