We've pulled together all the info you need to make your journey as enjoyable as possible. Follow our tips and you'll be zooming through airport security and exploring Manhattan in no time. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Flying can be a cruisy experience if you take the right stuff. Firstly, you'll want some toiletry items, such as toothpaste, a toothbrush and some deodorant, a clean pair of socks and a good novel. Next, leave space in your bag for your electronic devices, chargers, your medications and maybe a proper neck pillow as well. Lastly, don't forget to take your passport, travel docs and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Double-check that you don't have sharp objects (like a pocket knife) lurking in your carry-on luggage. Other restricted items include explosive or flammable substances, such as bleach and fuel, and liquids and gels in containers with a volume of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).
What to wear on a flight:
- The aisles of an aircraft aren't the place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfy clothing and choose shoes that are closed-toe, flat and easy to remove.
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can pose a risk on long-distance flights. It results from blood clots forming due to poor circulation and inactivity, so do some gentle leg and foot exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression tights or socks.
