• Air travel can be easy if you carry the right things. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletries, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a spare change of clothes and something to read. Next, make room in your bag for your laptop, a charger, any daily medications and maybe a comfy neck pillow too. Lastly, don't forget to bring your passport, travel papers and some cash.

• While the list of prohibited items differs between airlines, the general guide to follow is avoid carrying anything sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes things like knives, scissors, fireworks and fuel. • The right choice of footwear can save you several minutes. Hiking boots are often required to be removed and X-rayed separately. Slip-on sneakers are usually not.
