First, pack your passport, official ID, wallet and daily medications. Next, you'll want some entertainment to help pass the time. A juicy novel and a laptop crammed with your favorite movies are always good options. If you intend to catch more than just forty winks, a quality neck pillow and some earplugs will also come in handy. Finally, leave space for a toothbrush and some cleansing wipes to ensure you touchdown looking fresh and raring to go.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
While the list of restricted items can differ between air carriers, the general rule of thumb is avoid carrying anything sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, drills, spray paint and flares. Sports equipment like baseball bats, and items that could harm other people, such as swords and guns, are also banned from the cabin.
What to wear on a flight:
Comfort should be your priority when deciding what to wear on board. Loose, breathable clothing is a wise choice, as are flat, closed-toe shoes.
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-distance flights. It results from blood clots forming due to poor circulation and inactivity, so do some gentle leg and foot exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression tights or socks.
Your passport and boarding pass will need to be inspected by airport security. Keep them at hand so you don't have to dig around for them.
Next up is the X-ray machine. Remove anything on you that is likely to set off the alarm. This includes items like earphones or headphones, as well as bulky coats or jackets. They'll all need to go on the X-ray conveyor belt.
Your electronic devices like phones and laptops will also need to go on a tray for inspection. Don't worry, you'll be back online before you know it.
Any gels or liquids, such as shampoo or hand cream, that you want to bring on board need to be in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, everything must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), clear zip-close bag.
There's a possibility that you'll be required to remove your shoes to be X-rayed, so wearing slip-on shoes is always a good idea.
Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, pack them safely away in your checked baggage. They won't be allowed on board and will be confiscated.
