• Go for comfort over style. Prepare for temperature changes by dressing in layers, and wear flat, closed-toe shoes like sneakers.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Wander around the cabin and stretch your legs or do some gentle exercises in your seat to improve your circulation.

The trick is to be organized before you reach security. That way, you'll be boarding that plane to Armilla in a flash. Follow these tips and get your vacation off to a flying start:

• Security personnel first need to establish that you have a valid passport and travel documents before you can proceed any further. Have them ready for inspection.
• Next up, both you and your carry-on bag must be X-rayed. To speed things up, take off anything that might trigger the alarms. Personal belongings such as your coat, belt and headphones will be required to go through the machine.
