This hotel could be great if the staff cared enough. They were cold and unhelpful. Property is beautiful, and in an amazing location. The pools get busy. The two days we were at the rooftop pool it was Filled with loud, drunk obnoxious people.

We enjoyed our time at this beautiful resort which made a great base for exploring the west side of the island. The room, pools, beach area, restaurants and helpful staff combined for a wonderful stay. We split our time on Madeira between Funchal and Calheta which gave us two different, but equally great experiences and allowed us to more easily explore the entire island.

This was one of the most serene places to stay. The views were unreal, and the breakfast was amazing! The service was top tier too. I accidentally left a few things in my room after checkout, they contacted me within an hour and had it delivered to a Savoy location right by my airbnb the next morning. I would happily stay here again!

This stay was fantastic from start to finish. Arriving at the hotel by rental car was easy, there’s a large entry zone to park your car and check in/unload bags. They added parking for my car at no charge, and the parking zone is immediately to the left of the entrance. Our room was immaculate, it reminded me of a stay at a brand new Secrets Resort in Mexico a few years ago. Large rooms, high ceilings, excellent bathroom amenities. A nice plus is the tv has the ability to show you all the hotel information, along with your current bill. We swam at the rooftop unheated pool and the indoor heated pool. Both were fantastic and very enjoyable. The rooftop of the resort had multiple levels, to which if you keep climbing they have fruit and herb gardens overtop, and a steep rock staircase to a viewpoint well above the resort. I’m not sure if it’s when we were there, or the design of the resort, but everything felt like there was plenty of space, and availability. We never had to wait anywhere, nothing was packed. The buffet changes daily and is great for breakfast and dinner. The resort is positioned in a smaller beach town of Madeira, and has excellent vibes for walking nearby for lunch or swimming. Loved this stay, I can’t say enough about how much my wife and I enjoyed it.

Stunning Views, Subpar Service and Surprise Fees Calheta is a gorgeous destination, and this resort sits on an incredible spot with beautiful views and high-end rooms. Unfortunately, the overall experience was let down by poor service and misleading management. A few key takeaways for potential guests: Restaurant Reliability: I made a reservation at the 2nd-floor restaurant weeks in advance. When I arrived, the restaurant was completely closed with zero advance notice or communication. Service Standards: The front desk provided no guidance on how to access or use the property's amenities. Worse, the staff at both the pool and sky lounge were surprisingly rude and unhelpful. Extra Costs: Be aware that amenities are not included in your room rate and cost extra. While the location is lovely, the lack of hospitality and poor communication ruined the stay. I recommend visiting Calheta, but I’d look elsewhere for a place to stay if you value feeling welcomed and well-treated.

Beautiful hotel. The pool on the 8th has a sensational view. Beautiful plats, great beds and super modern, clean. Only downside for me was service. No service at all but the pool and almost made to feel like you were being troublesome to order a drink. Bar Staff / waiters on 8th floor were pretty nonchalant to be polite. On checking out you are also charged “mandatory tips” when you have to order everything yourself, walk up / down and sometimes told - “we can’t serve you, we’re preparing for dinner service (at 6pm) - pretty poor . Breakfast is fab, rooms are fab, just the poor service that’s letting the place dow .

Saccharum Hotel Resort & Spa is a perfect blend of luxury, calm, and thoughtful design. The ocean views are stunning, the rooms are spacious and beautifully finished, and the infinity pools and spa are incredibly relaxing.
