Butrint, a Unesco World Heritage site. Inhabited since prehistoric times, Butrint has been the site of a Greek colony (800 BC), a Roman city (44 BC) and a bishopric (5th centrury). Following a period of prosperity under Byzantine administration, then a brief occupation by the Venetians, the city was abandoned in the late Middle Ages after marshes formed in the area. The archaeological site is a repository of ruins representing each period in the city’s development and that entity is unique. Moreover the ruines are situated in a beautiful natural setting. The photo shows the famous baptistery, a major ruin from the 6th century and an ancient Roman monument adapted to the cultural needs of Christianity. One of the over 700,000 bunkers built in Albania during the forty year leadership of Enver Hoxha. This particular one is on the Vivari Channel close to Butrint National Park and is almost hidden now amongst the shrubs and pretty yellow wildflowers.

Modern hotel, comfortable bed, very clean room, friendly and helpful staff. Great location for exploring Saranda. Great breakfast. Wonderful view. Excellent value. We will return!

Bring ear plugs!! Noisy!
The first night I was awakened by people yelling in a stairwell at midnight. they advertised this place as soundproof and it is not. then there's a new building going up next door to it and there's all this noise during the day from construction. The third night I woke up again to people yelling ...
