First, check in was woeful. The receptionist was unhelpful and slow, and didn’t tell us about any of the following problems. The room itself was incredibly dry, the heater did not adjust, and the shower/bath was lukewarm at best, which is not nice after a long day skiing. On top of that, it was also not particularly clean, and there was mold in the bathroom. But the problems did not stop there. The next morning, we had planned to be able to take the shuttle to Monarch Mountain to ski, only to find out it wasn’t running. The food was also terrible, both breakfast and dinner. Very minimal options, slow service, and horribly cooked (and it still wasn’t cheap!). My girlfriend also ended up on the toilet for over an hour after eating the chicken tenders, be warned! To top it all off, the hot tubs advertised were out of order. I’d give this place 0 stars if I could, avoid at all costs!

Disappointing stay for the price We stayed here for several nights due to its proximity to Monarch Mountain, which is really the main benefit of this lodge. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not match the price. Check-in required calling someone via radio to come to the front desk, and we were given a physical room key. While I understand this is a more rural area, the room itself had several issues. There was no air circulation in the room. The heater did not work, and the bathroom fan was also nonfunctional. We were told to open the balcony door for airflow, which is not a realistic solution during winter conditions and the shared balcony. The bathroom floor appeared very dirty, and while we were told it was the “natural grout color,” it still looked unclean. The sink handle was broken, the ice machine was not working, and the electrical outlets were extremely loose. Maintenance later added a plug adapter to turn one outlet into four, but this did not actually resolve the underlying issue. Housekeeping only replaced towels and did not clean the room during the stay (which is noted in the description, but still worth mentioning for those expecting daily service). We ultimately left a day early. For a significantly lower price, this would have been more understandable, but at nearly $700 for four nights, the value just wasn’t there. The location is excellent, but the condition of the rooms and level of service need major improvement.

I spent approximately 10 minutes at the Monarch, enough to take in its darkness, age and eerie nature. The room was similar to a college dorm and the balcony is shared by all. While the front desk staff was very nice even they referred to it as having “character.” It felt like The Shining. The WIFI was very helpful as I booked a room several miles away.

When I first looked at the photo of the exterior , I was reminded of the hotel in ‘The Shining’ The desk clerk had the vibe of a stoned elderly hippy and had to call someone else to take my credit card info. The lovely views of the mountain were a plus. The 1970’s decor did distract from dingy towels, etc The construction has a wrap around balcony which can be entered from any room but definitely did not feel secure. The graffiti by the entrance is off putting I’m sure this is an affordable ski lodging base for groups of young people and families. On arrival and departure other putative guests stopped us to ask if the hotel ‘was okay’ … of course we knew why the gentleman who asked upon our arrival was asking after meeting the desk clerk. On departure, we answered by saying ‘we’re still alive’

The evening staff was friendly and professional. The morning staff was non existent. If you want breakfast it is a limited menu for about $13 + per person plus a 20% gratuity added. The room was not clean. There was sticky stuff all over the night stand that looked like spilled soda. The bed was not comfortable and room stuffy. The hot water was Luke warm at best. However, the location and views are wonderful. We loved the area. The hotel is in bad need of maintenance and renovation. Also note there are no options to purchase or get milk or other vending items or snacks. We were traveling with a toddler and asked for milk but was told they did not have any. We would stay again for an overnight stay because we love nature and like the location, but I would not recommend for longer stays or if you are looking for comfort.

Seemed straight outta 1988 and hadn't had much for maintenance or updating. The whole Lodge smelled of Marijuana, there were cameras everywhere, making us uncomfortable. Hot tubs were out of order. Awkward ceiling access panels. There was a breaker panel in the room and was missing breakers so sometime could touch the buss bars if they tried. The elevator lcd panel was missing and many lights flickering throughout. No receptacles available in the room to charge devices. Parking was OK, but there seemed to be parking out back that might've been more secure but we were told "No" about parking back there.

We showed up had to radio and waited for the front desk to show up. Got 2 room on separate floors. One room smelled so bad. Asked for another room. Had spider webs. Everywhere. Didn’t even stay. Dropped the keys in the return bowl and left
