  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. We enjoyed talking with the owners and learning about the area. Mark was able to get my husband on the local golf course and arranged the tee time, the clubs and the taxi. The breakfasts are so wonderful here. And the rooms are spacious and comfortable and the bathrooms are sparkling clean! Really enjoyed staying 3 nights here.

Lovely small hotel

We enjoyed our stay! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was good. The hotel is very well located - a 15 minute walk to the main square with the Belfry. The room itself was a little small and the shower was a hose with a head that you have to hold. This all was fine for us but be aware if it’s an issue for you.

We had an amazing experience at Ter Duinen. We traveled with two teens and booked the quadruple room. It was a great size for all of us. We took advantage of the parking. It is covered spots very close to the hotel. The breakfast is fantastic! Fresh bread, fruit, yogurt, eggs, ham and cheese. It felt like a bed and breakfast. We thought it might be a little too far from the center, but it was a perfect location. Right along the canal, within walking distance to everything, and away from the massive crowds of the city center. We absolutely loved this place and will definitely stay again when we return.

We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Bruges!

Hotel Ter Duinen is a super cosy family-run hotel located along one of Bruges' beautiful canals. The owners/hosts are very friendly people who really love their job! We were warmly welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. The breakfast was superb and served in a beautiful room. And we got a quiet room that we asked for. We will definitely stay at Hotel Ter Duinen next time we come to Bruges!

Everything great

We stayed in the hotel a couple of nights and everything was great. We were very welcomed by the staff. The room is comfortable and had all we needed - including air conditioning, which was very useful as it was quite hot. There is a supermarket near by (convenient) and everywhere in the city center is walking distance.

Guardando le recensioni mi aspettavo un albergo più bello. Le camere sono un po' basiche con arredi abbastanza vecchi. Pensavo anche, ma questo è colpa mia, che la camera sul canale fosse praticamente sull'acqua mentre invece è una finestra (piccola) che da sulla strada che scorre parallela al canale. Abbastanza lontano dal centro. Parcheggio per la macchina 20 euro a notte

We loved our stay at Hotel Ter Duinen! Tastfully decorated converted building with friendly service at a family-run hotel right in Bruges. We unloaded our luggage right outside the hotel, then parked our car just outside Bruges at a free lot that the owerner told us about. Took about 15-20 minutes to walk back to the hotel. The included breakfast at the hotel is gorgeous: croissants, meat, cheese, fruit, eggs, buns, fresh jam, tea, coffee, danishes - all served in a lovely dining space indoors or a stunning courtyard outside. Outside the Bruge walls we visited the Passchendaele museum (highly recommend), Tyne Cot cemetery and many Canadian war memorial sites. Within the walls we did the canal tour and a bike tour that took us to Damme where we got to explore a working windmill. Throughly enjoyed both tours. We walked aimlessly and explored. Bruges is a must see, and Hotel Ter Buinen is a great place to rest your head.

Un très bel hôtel de charme situé à 10 minutes à pied du centre. Emplacement calme, chambre propre et spacieuse. Service impeccable. Les propriétaires sont d'une gentillesse. Le petit déjeuner est riche et varié et a lieu dans une magnifique salle à plafond haut dotée d'une verrière et d'une cour intérieure. C'est décoré avec goût. On se sent comme dans une belle maison d'hôte plutôt que dans un hôtel, ce qui est très agréable. Les propriétaires sont de très bons conseils pour les sorties. Pour le parking, il est juste à côté. Il s'agit de box fermés. Aucune inquiétude pour la voiture. Séjour inoubliable.

The BEST

Where to start? We stayed in 5 hotels throughout our honeymoon and this was the best! The rooms are a bit dated but SO charming, the view from our window was to die for, we felt like we were in a fairytale, or a postcard or ... just gorgeous to wake up to that. Spectacular breakfast (4 months later, my husband still talks about how lavish and tasty it was), and the attention and service they provided made us feel so special. We WILL go back someday, for sure.
