  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. Lovely stay

Lovely hotel, well situated, quiet and exceptionally clean. Outside terrace and garden and bar service. Will definitely be staying at this hotel again, on our next visit to Bruges

Very relaxing hotel with great ambiance being surrounded by many period features. Our room at the top was very clean and tidy and worked very well. The breakfast was great with plenty of fruit, fresh orange juice and includes a cooked breakfast if you wanted. The gentleman looking after the breakfast supply was very attentive, thanks. The check in was easy and explained the special parking and where our room was very well. The Markt was only around 8-10 minutes walk at the most via the fish market. Thank you.

This is a lovely period property in an excellent location for all the attractions.Close to several restaurants and bars and just a 10 minute taxi ride from the train station.Staff were very helpful.Breakfast is a good option-good choice and good food.Enjoyed our 3 night stay

When I alerted the staff that my husband had some issues which made stairs difficult - they moved us to a ground floor room. It was deeply appreciated. And Jan Brito is a building and gardens with great personality.

Bruges trip

We were given a room upgrade, it was very peaceful looking out onto the courtyard. The room was very comfortable with a large bathroom and massive bed! The hotel was perfect for walking into the main city area. The staff were very helpful. My only minor criticism was the breakfast didn't open until 0800hrs and i needed an early start for business so we did not sample the breakfast. My fault really for not checking first. If we visit Bruges again we will definitely look to book this hotel

Loved this hotel! I walked from the train station and it was about 25 minutes. The location is walkable and convenient to the whole city. Helpful staff, loved my single room on the top floor with its exposed beams. Would definitely stay again.

The hotel is in an old manor, it is completely refurbished inside but kept some detailing that make it a fantastic and unique hotel. We absolutely loved it, the location is also perfect. We could walk everywhere we wanted and needed. The only thing was the parking, it is not on site, it is only a minute drive but you have to put the car in an elevator to get to your parking spot so that was a bit annoying but not the end of the world.

We had an excellent stay. The location is perfect and a fantastic base. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful and our room (whilst small) was clean, air conditioned and well appointed. Breakfast was a good standard and we enjoyed finishing our days in the hotel bar. Would highly recommend.

The Jan Brito is probably one of the most unique and beautiful hotels my family and I have stayed at anywhere in the world. We loved the history of the building (just watch your head on the exposed wooden beams in the room)! The staff was kind and helpful and the location is absolutely perfect for all the beautiful sights in Bruges. We couldn't have asked for a better situation. Really.
