We stayed in Room 168 at De Vere Tortworth Court and were left deeply disappointed. As longstanding De Vere guests, we expected far better. The stay was riddled with failures — some frustrating, others downright dangerous.
We were given the wrong room at check-in and had to request a move. No porter assistance was available, despite us struggling with a 10-month-old baby and luggage. A cot we had pre-requested and confirmed by phone was missing, then took over 6 hours to arrive. When it did, it was unsafe and collapsed during the night. Our baby ended up sleeping in our bed.
The room itself was dirty: the bathroom was unhygienic, the bathtub filthy, and only one towel was provided for two adults and a baby. The sofabed was unsafe (it collapsed when sat on), stained, and unclean. The outdoor bar was unusable due to a serious wasp infestation.
Worst of all, a scalding hot plate of pasta was placed directly in front of our baby in the restaurant. He reached out and burned his hand. No warning was given. This was entirely avoidable and inexcusable.
We also found a highchair covered in beer. Overall, we were shocked at the lack of cleanliness, safety, and basic care. This experience fell far below any acceptable standard. Be warned if you’re travelling with children — this hotel is not family-safe.
