Don't bother with breakfast
Welcoming, quiet and clean. Breakfast cereal choice was limited. Porridge add water. Orange juice not fresh. Very, very very poor value for 15
We really enjoyed our stay at the Alveston hotel. We did not arrive until late as it was a last minute stay but the staff were really helpful at reception. They are dog friendly and the room we were given was lovely - really spacious and you got given a dog water bowl as well :)
They have a lovely garden area at the back of the hotel which we took the dogs out in the morning.
Didn’t get to experience the bar or breakfast as it was a short trip but Would definitely recommend
Nice staying in this hotel. The bed was very confortable. Just one thing that displeased us was the bathroom: it was full of limescale around the tap and the handles of the bath. But except that we really enjoy.
Whilst the decor was a little dated and the outside areas a little tired the level of cleanliness and comfort could not be faulted. Louise on reception was so genuinely friendly and caring. When she realised we had dogs and I was using a crutch she changed our room to be nearer the garden. The garden is large and fully enclosed so ideal for dogs to take comfort breaks. Dog poo bin in situ. Dogs welcomed in part of restaurant. Great food and again friendly service in the restaurant. An added bonus was the "slimming world" friendly breakfasts on the menu. I needed it after the amazing salmon linguini the night before!
Good little hotel, with a nice restaurant (servicing Italian style food) and small bar. Highlight are the Staff who were all very helpful and provided excellent customer service.
If staying in the Thornbury area I would recommend this hotel.
Just a bit dated - room a bit small. Food and breakfast excellent - possibly staff could keep a check on coffee in the restaurant and just be a bit friendlier. Bed comfortable. Would stay again.
Nice place only problem bar wasn’t open after 5pm on a Sunday

Couldn’t find booking on arrival.
Waited 45mins for breakfast to be served only one waitress who was rushed off her feet.
Have stayed here before but won’t be back.

The garden was lovely as was the hotel's proximity to A38 and the golf club. Beds were comfortable. Pictures on line suggest better rooms than what we were given! Staff very friendly, but most of them had been working there a very short time. One guy, named Pino, who said he was the manager had only been there 3 weeks! The young girl who booked us in didn't seem to know much about the surrounding area. She also didn't give us the tear off slip with the code to get in to the hotel if we were late returning, which we were and so we were locked out! Eventually after knocking and phoning, someone came to our rescue and let us in. Unfortunately we lost our key and had to pay £15 for a new one. Most hotels nowadays have the modern card system so if you lose it, you don't have to pay anything.
The hot water wasn't working properly for showers in the am. We really should have had a refund or the fee for the key waived as compensation. There was also a radiator on in the corridor near our room when it was 38 degrees!! We had to wait a long time for breakfast. I had the slimmer's breakfast but when it arrived I couldn't eat the eggs as they were like plastic. The tea was in an urn and undrinkable. Coffee was passable. Apparently the restaurant is a separate business which serves the hotel, but is part of its reputation, so the hotel overall is responsible for the quality. Overall our impression was that we he Hotel was incredibly disorganised and had the potential to be far better.
Great place to stay, however,. You must check your app to see if it has been paid for. My app said I had paid but the hotel had been given a 'virtual' payment via Expedia which had been refused!. I had to spend an hour on the phone to hotels.com to sort it out with the manager of the hotel, who was absolutely awesome and very considerate. She needed paying I understand this but if I have paid why should I have to sort non payment out? So much for my early getaway!
We ordered room service dinner quite late as the kitchen was preparing to close. We were very grateful, that two beautiful meals arrived up to our room. Loved the service above and beyond the call of duty.

Clean but dated & poor facilities
The area is lovely, the hotel is clean, but very dated and in need of redecoration, unless you like tired 80’s decor! No tea or coffee facilities in room. The TV could only receive half the channels it was programme to receive (no ITV or C4!). At breakfast most things were off the menu as they had ‘run out’. The staff were friendly and welcoming. This hotel could be lovely, but has a long way to go.
The staff were very friendly however the room is out dated and had an awful smell.
The breakfast was something out of a horror movie.
We just left it.
It’s a shame as it has so much potential:-(
Lovely hotel, well positioned and easy to find. Great location, just off the main road. Not ultra modern but clean and tidy. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Well worth a visit.
The Staff were always helpful. The experience for us was a positive one. So much so that the small difficulties we met with have faded into insignificance.
