Miquel & his staff were excellent. Wonderful dinner & breakfast with many homemade crafted items. They made you feel like you were part of the family! We are now friends of there’s & grateful for the experience of staying at there winery. Rooms were spacious & views of the property were splendid. Infinity pool with gorgeous views of the property!
We had a lovely stay. It is a comfortable and welcoming place. We particularly enjoyed meeting other travellers and sharing meals with them
The only thing we felt was lacking was an opportunity to learn more about the estate and their wines.
Our brief stay was a wonderful experience of the Portugal countryside on a large farm with rolling hills, lakes, a pool and other modern amenities while maintaining an exquisite, rustic and bucolic environment. The staff was extraordinarily friendly and inviting. We loved staying there.
This property is quite remote. I don’t recommend trying to find it in the dark- although we were sent very good instructions. This place encourages mingling with other guests and we had a delightful time with a British and a Swedish couple around the huge fireplace and at the communal dining table. It is well worth requesting the dinner for$€30 a person including wine.
Herdade do Vau is truly an oasis tucked away in the heart of the countryside. While the journey to get there is a bit of an adventure—4 kilometers along a rocky road (more rock than dirt, despite the hotel’s prior description)—the effort is well worth it. It took us about 20 minutes to drive the track, so a car is essential, and once you arrive, it feels like a secluded escape, making leaving feel like a challenge in the best way. The hotel offers the option to pre-order dinner if arranged in advance, but we chose to dine at O Adro near Serpa, which we highly recommend.
The hotel itself is set on a charming wine estate, with just a few rooms that make for an intimate and peaceful stay. The staff were warm and welcoming, adding to the overall relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast was delightful, featuring fresh bread, jams, cereal, eggs, tea, and coffee. The rooms were tastefully rustic, simple yet comfortable, blending perfectly with the countryside charm. The views across the valley were stunning, and we enjoyed the added amenities like the swimming pool and the tennis court, complete with rackets. It’s a perfect retreat for anyone looking to disconnect and immerse themselves in nature’s beauty.
This is a property truly in the middle of nowhere where you have to drive around 5k (3 miles) on a dirt road which is in pretty decent shape. The views are spectacular, you get to see vineyards, olive trees, a pond, and if you walk 2k (1.2 miles) you will get to the Guadiana River. The house looks like an Hacienda, very beautiful and maintenance is excellent.
They also produce a respectable wine which you can consume there, and if you consider having dinner at the property it is already included in the price; I found this to be a quite attractive offer.
The staff is second to none. Great service. From check-in to check-out. We arrived late around 9:45-10pm and they were already serving dinner. They had enough food so they offered us to join the dinner at a discounted price since it was already on the way (there was no need for that as we got offered the same food!). We were probably having dinner by 10:15pm quite late, but they were happy to arrange it. Any request was always received with a smile, a really solid hospitality team.
Additionally, there is an adjacent games room.
They have 3-4 communal tables in a lounge each one sitting 8-10 people. Breakfast is also served there.
Internet works in the lounge, you will not get it at any other place in the property.
There is a very nice pool just steps below the property which enjoys a full view of the surroundings.
This is truly an enjoyable place if you want peace and quiet for a few days.
No food onsite. I was ask to book two days in advance the food - but I just booked the hotel on day in advance...
Very unfriendly lady in the kitchen complaining about where I parked that she lives there but parking was full.
The property was very pretty and quiet. The pool area was great. We opted in for the optional dinner which was nice but would have been SOooo much better if someone had explained the wine choices with the meals or anything regarding the wines at all. It was a missed opportunity to sell wine to their guests. Also, we were finishing our glass of wine enjoying the outdoor scenery, when suddenly all the lights went out and it became complete darkness. Not the most welcoming feeling overall :(
We loved our stay at Herdade do Vau. The setting is beautiful and the staff are lovely. Only down point was the poor communication during the weeks leading up to our stay, kept having to chase them to confirm dinner, wine tasting and vineyard visit. We nearly cancelled our reservation because we didn't have confirmation that these could be booked, making it pointless to stay in a vineyard. They were only able to confirm dinner.
