Garnet Inn & Suites, Morehead City near Atlantic Beach
2/10 Terrible
"The Google Photos of this hotel make it look far more appealing than it actually is. My wife and I stayed here for 4 days and not once did we get fresh towels, toilet paper, trash bags, or sheets. On top of that, each day we were here, our key magically would stop working while we were out around town causing us to repeatedly have to get it fixed. Going to get it fixed would take at least 20 minutes for someone to even come to the front. The overall cleanliness of this place is terrible. Each trash can you passed was overflowing with garbage and trash bags piled on the sides of them. The shower in our room had other individuals hair all in it and the toilet looked as if it had never been cleaned before. The towels that we had from the beginning of our stay had black stains all over them. Our AC did not work at all during our stay, wouldn’t even turn on. There was a dehumidifier that was completely full, no telling the last time it may have been dumped. There was food and drinks left behind in the fridge from previous guests. There were certain staff members that would walk around asking guests for cigarettes. On the last day of our stay, we tried to check out, no one would come to the front. We called the number left behind and it was a disconnected line. We kept our hopes high that our room would be refreshed each time we would return from being out for the day, but were let down entirely. As stated before, photos online of this hotel are far from the reality of it."
"We stayed at the Margaritaville Compass Hotel for a weekend getaway, and overall it was a decent experience, but definitely an expensive one. Between the room, food, drinks, and parking, we spent around $1,000 for the weekend, so my expectations were pretty high.
The hotel itself was very clean, and the rooms had beautiful views overlooking the marina, which was probably one of the highlights of the stay. The pool area was also very nice and had a relaxing atmosphere. The breakfast buffet was surprisingly good, and the drinks were definitely strong, so no complaints there.
That said, the menu prices throughout the property felt extremely overpriced for the quality and portions. Parking was also frustrating unless you paid extra for valet service. The self-parking spots are very tight and don’t comfortably fit many vehicles, so I’d recommend planning ahead or trying to find street parking if possible.
One positive is the location — it’s within walking distance to a lot of restaurants, bars, and attractions, which made getting around easy. However, during our stay there were only two entertainment shows the entire weekend, which was disappointing considering the amount we spent. I expected a little more activity and entertainment for the price point.
Overall, it feels very tourist-oriented. While the property is clean and has some nice features, I’m not sure I would return given the overall cost versus value."
"Convenient location. Amenities were scarce — Bring your own soap and shampoo. Bedding was comfortable and room and bathroom were very cleaned. Cable and/or Wi-Fi was spotty. Overall, it was good location for a night or two"
"I did not enjoy a place that was not cleaned appliances was dirty. Microwave was dirty rusted out stove was dirty and had rust on it. Refrigerator had rust on it. No part of the apartment was clean to the degree that it should’ve been. It has not been vacuumed. The sheets were dirty. it was not the kind of place I would ever run again."
"Only one employee was friendly and helpful. (Cynthia). We had reserved a golf cart for the day and were told it was $80 when we went to front desk to get cart they wanted to charge $125. Office as not open posted hours causing the cart not to be available till almost noon. Room was clean but tv did not work, no hair dryer and outlets were not available for medical equipment without moving bed. Would not stay there again"
