  • The Criterion in downtown Bar Harbor, Maine, does not look very much from the exterior, but it is a glorious, well-preserved Art Deco style theatre. Opening in 1932, it has served the town of Bar Harbor as a movie palace ever since, accomodating such prominent families as the Rockefellers on their vacations to nearby Mount Desert Island. Kept in fantastic condition over the years, the theatre still has most of its original interior: seats, curtains, and even the original lighting board for stage performances. Loved everything about this hotel. Check in was pleasant and James gave suggestions on where to grab a cocktail in town. Also enjoyed the fresh baked cookies. The room was cozy and comfortable, and the breakfast provided was far above average with Nantucket pie and cream cheese filled pancakes as options to choose from. Everything in town was easily walkable and Acadia National Park is a very short drive away.

We had an expected appointment in the Bar Harbor area and needed a place to stay for the night. The website was easy to navigate and the hotel is easy to find. They do offer parking under the hotel, but looks limited. Off season we were able to park right next door. The lobby and hotel were nicely decorated and the room was spacious! Loved the corner room. So comfortable and plenty of seating options if you did not want to watch tv in bed. The staff were professional and polite and they have COOKIES in the afternoon! Yeah baby!!! They have a restaurant on site, and the menu has enough options to cover various dietary needs. Off-season, the staff is limited, so be patient and enjoy the views. We would return to Pathmaker during the busier season for sure.

Breakfast was more than enough! It was so cozy and peaceful in the restaurant, we could wake up slow and prepare for our daily adventures. Parking is underneath the hotel which made it super easy to get rolling at 6am after a snowstorm. Also the elevator for parking headed right up to our floor, avoiding a transfer thru another area. Fantastic hotel, and great mid winter stay!

The room was very clean. The staff were all very welcoming and kind. The restaurant had amazing food and service. This was the coziest hotel. I had a fantastic stay at this hotel! The customer service was truly excellent—everyone was friendly, attentive, and eager to assist. The breakfast included each morning was delicious, with a great variety of high-quality food that satisfied every craving. My room was spacious, comfortable, and spotlessly clean, providing a perfect retreat after a day of exploring. The hotel's location is superb, conveniently situated close to Acadia National Park major attraction. Plus, the price was very reasonable for the level of comfort and service received. Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a comfortable, affordable, and well-located place to stay.
