Bačvice Beach is the most popular beach in the city of Split, attracting both natives and vacationers to its energetic shores. Challenge friends or family to a game of picigin, splash about in the shallow Adriatic waves or sip a beer at one of the beachside bars.
This pebble and sand beach is a favorite local hangout and boasts a lively and buzzing ambiance. It’s been awarded Blue Flag status for its cleanliness and abundant facilities. Bring the whole family along for a day in the sun. The wide beach and shallow waters make it safe and especially suitable for children.
Rent a sun lounger and umbrella or bring a towel and lie wherever you please. This beach can get busy during the hot summer months, so arrive early in the morning to secure a well-placed spot.
Watch locals playing picigin in the shallows, ducking and diving as they attempt to keep a small ball from dropping into the water. This popular Croatian beach pastime is thought to have originated here on Bačvice Beach in the early 20th century. As you will see, it is still an extremely popular beach activity, fun to try but difficult to master.
Dry off during a stroll along the coastal path, which leads east from Bačvice past several smaller and quieter bays. Find numerous cafés and restaurants along this pathway. When you’ve had enough swimming, sunbathing and picigin, use changing facilities and showers located at either end of the beach to freshen up.
After a day spent at the beach, stop at the Bačvice restaurant-nightlife complex for dinner or an end-of-day drink. Located directly behind the beach, this three-story complex houses restaurants and bars that become lively after dark. Soak up the fun atmosphere and mingle with locals and tourists as they party the night away.
Bačvice Beach is centrally located and can be reached on foot from most central Split locations. To get here, take a 5-minute walk east from the ferry port or a 15-minute walk east from Diocletian’s Palace.
