Azuqueca de Henares

Travel Guide

Deep in the Guadalajara countryside lies Azuqueca de Henares, a traditional town with spacious promenades and squares, amidst marvellous natural surroundings.

If you spend your holidays in Azuqueca de Henares, you’ll find a small, lazily-paced town full of friendly people. Strolling through its streets, you’ll find emblematic buildings such as the parish church of San Miguel dating from the 16th century and the church of Santa Teresa de Jesús, which dates back to the 17th century.

Culture holds key importance in the town, as shown by its spacious cultural centre. Art and photograph exhibitions, film series, talks, dance, music and theatre all are packed into the town’s cultural programming, so check it out when you plan your trip to Azuqueca to make the most of your stay.

Our cheap trips to Azuqueca de Henares are the perfect excuse to visit the town in September. As part of its festivities during the third weekend of the month, the town holds the Desfile de Carrozas de las Peñas Públicas, declared a festival of regional tourist interest, in which a lively procession of attractively decorated floats parade through the town. If you’ve got some time free during these dates, don’t miss it!

Azuqueca also has open green spaces for recreation that invite you to sit down and relax in the shade. The most famous of these is Parque de la Quebradilla , covering over 24 acres, which is the town’s main green belt.

Closer to the centre, you’ll find Parque de la Ermita, a tranquil grove that is home to the chapel of the Virgen de la Soledad. This Renaissance temple built in the 17th century contains a beautiful icon of the Virgin dating from 1769.

Don’t forget to bring your sports gear if you want to stay active during your time in Azuqueca. There is a wide range of sporting facilities available: two municipal sports centres, two football pitches, a swimming pool that is open in summer, an athletics track and much more. An athlete’s dream!

What’s more, the town is well connected to other towns and cities: you can get to Guadalajara under ten minutes and to Madrid in around an hour by train. With our package deals to Azuqueca de Henares, you’re sure to find a range of accommodation options to suit your budget.
