There were no towels, facecloths or teaspoons to stir my coffee. There were milk pods in the mini fridge, but it wasn't turned on. The free airport bus was good.

The fact of having to go next door to the reception and to have dinner in the restaurant was not appealing especially as a single woman walking there alone at night, I made sure I was back in my room before dark. The air con was fantastic in the room as too were the clean sheets n bedding. Outdated furniture and cracked tiles in the bathroom needs attention, the bed of springs was not comfortable at all. But the shuttle service to and from the airport was why I choose this place.

Airport shuttle an easy way to get to the hotel,was a surprise first time shuttle user,hotel room and area was average to poor on my liking,on arrival at the hotel staff need a bit of welcoming and warmth attitude.

Was what you expected, I hoped for a little more in the room, but was just a place to sleep for a few hours until I woke up to go to the airport. Staff were friendly, shared kitchen and bathroom was run down, and my curtain/window from my room opened to a view of them both, not outside. Did have one fella stick his arm through at one point when walking the hallway, which wasn’t amazing but no big deal to just close it. Airport shuttle was the best thing, ran regularly and 24 hours, made the trip to the place and then back to the airport early hours of the morning stress free.

The room we were given was so hot (like a sauna). No air conditioning. We went to open the sliding door (which had trouble sliding) and a window by the door was half open and broken. The room did not appear to be very clean. Old dirty carpeting. The bathroom needs serious updating. Only one bath towel in the room. No facecloths. No hand towel. The hallways in the building were so dirty. We brought all this to the desk staff's attention, and they gave us a room at the neighboring hotel The Gateway for an extra charge. That room was a huge improvement and had air conditioning, and the building was cleaner. We appreciated being moved. The VR Auckland Airport Hotel needs air conditioned rooms and a serious upgrade and deep clean.

The location is very convenient and the free shuttle bus is a great bonus. The place was clean and comfortable, but the only detail is that there was no hairdryer.

After a long haul journey and arriving from overseas at 2am, we were grateful for the free airport shuttle bus and 24 hour check in at Airport Gateway Hotel. The staff were very kind and accommodating and we were able to arrange for a late check out, the night before, due to our jet lag.They kindly gave us extra coffee and milk, upon request. It was nice to be able to get filtered, chilled or bottled water at reception from the dispenser and reception. We enjoyed our stay and will come back.

I booked the room to get a few hours of sleep between flights. I chose this property because it had a free shuttle to and from the airport, and it suited my backpackers budget . The shuttle was great. Check-in was easy and pleasant. The property seemed to be undergoing renovations (there was a sign posted when I got inside the wing where my room was). It was definitely run-down and quite unclean. The bathroom especially, which is always unpleasant. The bed itself was clean and comfortable . It was kind of noisy with people talking until quite late, and based on the surrounding area I was not 100% confident about safety and security (there was only a button lock on the doorknob, no deadbolt or security chain) and I was on the ground floor so I didn’t feel safe keeping the window open while I slept. There was a very strong chemical smell in the room (cleaning chemicals I would guess) and so between all that and no fresh air, I did not manage to get any sleep before having to get on the airport shuttle at 4am. They did have very nice quality tea available in the room. I would not stay at this property again. Hopefully it will be better when the renovations are complete.

Reliable close to the airport

Have stayed here before, very friendly staff, everything clean and very comfortable bed and pillows! Close to the airport with free shuttle, will stay again.

Clean, Quiet, Convenient

We need somewhere to have a good sleep after a late arrival. It was really easy to check in. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Quiet enough area. Airport transfers were easy and convenient. Staff and service were great. Would stay again.

Love that it was close to the airport and convenient as in central to everything but the rooms are outdated. Dusty and old. Felt alil sketchy and unsafe at times cause the door to the side stays open. The place needs an upgrade sucha good location

Old and musty

The VR Auckland Airport Hotel is very rundown and needs renovating. My room smelt very musty, however the bed was comfortable and the room clean. The hotel security was non-existent with side external doors left permanently open, even though a code was needed to get in the front door.

Went downhill from morning

My check in was great, exactly what you want when arriving at midnight. Slept well but unfortunately woke up to bites, brown tap and shower water (hot tap only) and a cockroach on the wall. Rooms really need better cleaning.
