The VR was changed to the Aero Hotel, or a similar name, which was next door to the VR. We thought the hotel looked run down and not welcoming at all. Very dingy and dark. Didn’t look clean. Someone had room service when we arrived early morning, and the dirty dishes were still outside the room the next morning! The girls at the desk at the adjoining hotel were very lovely and helpful. The restaurant and bar looked sad and not a place you’d want to spend much time in. More like a cafeteria. I wouldn’t recommend this property.

Room was fine. Reception staff were friendly. Location is perfect for those wanting to be near the airport. Had to check in and check out at Gateway next door. The restaurant wasn’t great.

Had a room with a locking door. Beds were comfortable and bed linens were clean but, in all other respects it was like staying in a dorm room / hostel. Fine if you are just looking for a bed while awaiting a flight the next day. The free shuttle to and from the airport was a nice benefit. Good value for the price we paid.

The room had not been cleaned and clearly not for awhile. It is in need of a deep clean. There was rubbish and visible dirt. I was bitten all over my body and have ended up with red welts from sleeping in the bed. I have asked for a refund with no response. I did not expect anything fancy, just clean.I do not recommend this place, it's not worth it.

Walked into my first room and the smell of mould was very strong, black mould all through the bathroom. I was given a second room and the smell of mould was much less but still present. You could see that someone had cleaned the mould from the ceiling and walls in the bathroom but that it was coming back. Plasce was cheap but not cheap enough for that.

Needs maintenance and updating. Worn out sheets, awful pillows. Wires in room that are just cut off are a bit worrisome. But cheap.

The room we were given was so hot (like a sauna). No air conditioning. We went to open the sliding door (which had trouble sliding) and a window by the door was half open and broken. The room did not appear to be very clean. Old dirty carpeting. The bathroom needs serious updating. Only one bath towel in the room. No facecloths. No hand towel. The hallways in the building were so dirty. We brought all this to the desk staff's attention, and they gave us a room at the neighboring hotel The Gateway for an extra charge. That room was a huge improvement and had air conditioning, and the building was cleaner. We appreciated being moved. The VR Auckland Airport Hotel needs air conditioned rooms and a serious upgrade and deep clean.

Pictures were nothing like the property. We went in to find dirty floors and tiles, broken hanging from the wall towel rail, grubby walls, broken uneven tiles, place smelt like it hadnt been opened in quite some time. Checked in then left after 30mins after we booked elsewhere, with zero refund. Couldnt bring ourselves to stay. Photos dont even show how bad it was

This place shouldn’t be advertised on Expedia. It was abysmal. From the photos I thought I was booking an affordable hotel. Instead it’s more like a halfway house with mystery stains everywhere, curtains hanging off railings, cigarette burns in the furniture, zero privacy. We ended up having to find other accomodation at 2am in the morning after two long haul flighst. Turns out VR Auckland Airport is actually Aero Auckland Airport Hotel with 2.2 stars on Google and numerous reviews complaining about the mould and smell. 2.2 stars is generous.

I booked the room to get a few hours of sleep between flights. I chose this property because it had a free shuttle to and from the airport, and it suited my backpackers budget . The shuttle was great. Check-in was easy and pleasant. The property seemed to be undergoing renovations (there was a sign posted when I got inside the wing where my room was). It was definitely run-down and quite unclean. The bathroom especially, which is always unpleasant. The bed itself was clean and comfortable . It was kind of noisy with people talking until quite late, and based on the surrounding area I was not 100% confident about safety and security (there was only a button lock on the doorknob, no deadbolt or security chain) and I was on the ground floor so I didn’t feel safe keeping the window open while I slept. There was a very strong chemical smell in the room (cleaning chemicals I would guess) and so between all that and no fresh air, I did not manage to get any sleep before having to get on the airport shuttle at 4am. They did have very nice quality tea available in the room. I would not stay at this property again. Hopefully it will be better when the renovations are complete.

There were no towels, facecloths or teaspoons to stir my coffee. There were milk pods in the mini fridge, but it wasn't turned on. The free airport bus was good.
