We had a lovely stay for just one night at The Airds Hotel. We were a bit late getting in and had to cancel an earlier dinner reservation because we were running behind. But the staff were very accommodating and allowed us to enjoy dinner in the restaurant. They also provided us a takeaway bag for breakfast as we had to check out early the next morning. The hotel room itself was very comfortable. The water in the shower gets scalding hot, BEWARE. There is a sign in the bathroom warning of this but it isn’t until you go to take a shower that you realize how hot it truly gets. It takes a little bit of time fiddling with the controls to get the water to a desirable temperature. Other than that, we absolutely loved our stay and wish we could have spent more time here.
Hotel doesn't look much from outside but different story inside. Staff lovely, lovely lounge are for relaxing, comfy armchairs, food very good, service very good. Beds really comfy. View from front of hotel stunning
Breakfast was phenomenal. I’m not vegetarian but the vegetarian sausages were amazing and easily the best eggs I’ve had across a dozen countries. The staff and service were exceptional; we were held up 3 hours due to an accident causing a temporary road closure, delaying us until 2a. I called the number upon arrival and they were there settling us in within 5 minutes. Incredibly accommodating and went out of their way to make us comfortable… speaking of which, the beds were insanely comfy.
Also, The Lighthouse (Appin Craft Shop). We wanted to leave with half the items there. Many local artwork and jewelry, all authentic, highly recommend.
Stunning position and homely comfortable hotel. Staff very friendly helpful & polite. Bed was sooo comfortable our room was spacious with pleasing decor - the view our bedroom magnificent
Evening meal was good as was breakfast.
I loved the lovely mid blue coloured glassware in the dining room - a simple but standout ‘pop’ of colour works very well imo. Loved our stay which was enhanced by a lovely (very early) morning circular walk from the hotel encompassing woodlands and views over tranquil Loch Linnhe. Perfect 👌
Lovely location & welcome, great staff.
Unfortunately we had some issues with the heating in our room, so after a 5 hour journey we had to move room twice in order to get working heating, we eventually ended up with a ground floor room facing the car park which meant we were unable to enjoy the view but by that point it was dark anyway but a least the room was warm
Helpfull staff but not enough of them, eg breakfast only one lady , not sure if she was also cook. Brought teapot and toast when conveient to her which meant they were both cold by the time food arrived.
While I was not there to watch TV, as the weather one day was to wet and windy to go walking I tried the TV. Unfortunately the TV in the lounge area and in the bedroom had minds of their own, and while watching BBC News in the lounge area the TV in the Bedroom started to play a completely different programme!
Some guide book for the TV would have been useful.

I’m afraid to say we checked in and checked out. Uninhabitable room with damp and absolutely filthy. Had to find alternative accommodation and Expedia gave us a full refund and compensation. It was that bad.

We arrived to a room which we were told would face the bay, instead it faced the parking backyard. Some misunderstanding which we could have lived with if the room did not have cracked ceilings showing rain damages in various places with one spot that still showed mold in the ceiling. The floor on the entrance to the room was lose and it felt unsafe entering. The carpet was absolutely dirty, no AC, so we felt like spending our last two nights in a dump. The hotel redeemed itself by giving us a bay view room the next night which was much better, however the price is way too high for a place like this. This is the second Relais & Châteaux we encountered on this trip that is absolutley overpriced for an absolute underwhelming experience. Stay away!
Overall, a delightful stay. Clean, nice rooms, good food, generally very courteous and thoughtful staff (see below). Definitely a luxury dining (dinner) experience that borders on being overpriced; food was good, but portions were small and prices were very large! But I suppose you expect that at a luxury hotel, so that's more of an observation than anything. If there were one negative experience, it would simply be that when we checked in, because the airline had lost our luggage and caused us a six-hour delay at the airport, we arrived late. We understood that we had missed the window for dinner, but were not only tired and very inconvenienced by having none of our belongings with us, but were also really hungry. When we explained our misfortune to the person checking us in, we were given a perfunctory condolence and then shown immediately to our room. That felt a very cold response from any B&B, much less a high-end establishment. We weren't expecting them to whip us up a late supper, but at a minimum, as a B&B owner myself, I would have at least asked my guests if I could offer them something... anything... piece of fruit, some dinner rolls, anything to help address their misfortune. That this didn't happen was the one negative to an otherwise lovely stay.
The hotel lost the reservation for our 2-night stay, which they found in a spam folder eventually, so they were wholly unprepared for our arrival. Luckily they at least didn’t turn us away. We were shown to a medium-sized room with a view of the parking lot and promised to be moved to the room we actually booked the next day.
The next day, it was a huge hassle to repack our bags only to unpack them again one floor up. The hotel staff just didn’t seem to understand how disruptive this was (specifically for the price, nearly $700 for 2 nights!!!). We were “upgraded” to a MUCH smaller room with a great view… from the BATHROOM. The original room had a seating area, a wall of windows, and a desk. The “upgraded” room had only a tiny vanity with nowhere to sit but the bed.
Moreover, one of the robes smelled like someone else’s perfume, there was a hair in the bathtub, and the water pressure in the shower was a weak little joke. The house is old, you can hear everyone walking up and down the stairs, and the noise from other guests in the halls lasted until 11pm.
I was shocked the next day when we received the bill. The manager, Caty, comped one round of drinks from dinner the night before. That’s it. For the price we paid, this was 1-star experience and we recommend that someone looking for a bit of luxury on their nature vacation look elsewhere to enjoy good service combined with good accommodations.
Needless to say, we won’t be back, and you shouldn’t go either.
