Nice hotel, a short walk from the town centre. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast choice. My only negative point is that the bathroom was tired with noisy plumbing but otherwise I enjoyed my stay.

We had a lovely stay at the Oaks. The staff were all very helpful, and the food was delicious in the bar in the evening, and the breakfast was also great! The car park was always busy, but we were always able to find a space.

Second stay at the oaks. First time was in a family room with grandson which was great- this time in a double, which looked great on the surface but few minor issues - shower cubicle far too small, sockets not well positioned to use hairdryer/ tongs and pillows too thin and flimsy. The staff were brilliant as per previous visit and full Northumbrian breakfast was faultless and up there with the best. The location is ideal- only a 10 minute stroll to castle and town. Parking was easy - we couldn’t check in till 2pm but were allowed to use car park on arrival at 10.30am. Overall another pleasant stay.

Delightful old building, attractively furnished rooms, super service, excellent breakfast. The only niggle is no lift, so heavy suitcases may be a struggle on the stairs

Very comfortable bed we slept well and good shower. There was an unpleasant smell not sure what was causing it but everything else was good. We ate in the bar due to the rain and staff were very friendly and food portions enormous.

Easy to find, friendly and helpful staff. Room was a bit dated and looked like bathroom had been updated but still needed a good clean on paintwork, which also needed painting. Door to room was not tight fitting and light from landing was visible all night down one side.

Very good small hotel. We enjoyed a lovely pub meal and friendly service when we stayed. Breakfast was a bit disappointing with the full range of buffet items unavailable eg cheese and cold meats. The waitress was clearly not familiar with the menu. Room was small but very suitable for the night. Parking was good and it was very dog friendly with a separate dog menu. I would recommend it and would not hesitate to return.
