Quiet, beautiful hotel very close to mountains

Great place with amazing view, in a walking distance to Medeo. My room was very nice, clean and in a good condition. There is spa and pool (which I didnt visit as prefered to walk to the mountains). The view from rooftop terrace is breathtaking. Having breakfast there was a pure pleasure. A 100% recommendation

Отличное место для отдыха

Отель выбирали по максимальной доступности к курорту Чимбулак, но что б и в город можно было выехать в любое время. Отель довольно уютный, чистый, имеется СПА -комплекс, очень приятно после катания на лыжах , хорошо прогреться в сауне и поплавать в бассейне .Комнаты тёплые, убирают ежедневно. Завтраки обычные, но все необходимое есть. При заселении в нашей комнате был запах сигарет, т.к мы были с детьми, попросили комнату заменить, на ресепшн сказали комнат в наличии нет, поэтому пришлось пару дней проветривать комнату. В душевой и ванне забился слив и вода плохо уходила В общем , пребыванием остались довольны и если поедем ещё раз, то выберем этот же отель.

Très bon établissement. Personnel toujours disponible et prévenant. Beau Spa avec piscine, jacuzzi, hammam et sauna. Petit déjeuner à volonté même si le choix est un peu limité. A faire.

Good stay , again , at Samal

This was my 10th stay over last 9 years. Anybody visiting Almaty will like the hotel and Spa services. Great service and assistance by the hotel staff. Out of main town and in the mountains it has great views with a real get away feel .

Mountain Retreat

The location is amazing if you have your own transport. The Medeu ice rink and Shymbulak Resort are minutes away by car. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean. Breakfast was vast.

Easy getaway in Almaty

Went in the afternoon and stayed one night. Two couples surprised husband of another couple for his birthday. Had a great relaxing time, wonderful dinner, and a good night’s sleep.

Comfortable, relaxing hotel near the mountains.

We enjoyed our stay immensely. The spa was very relaxing, and the room was comfortable. Samal resort was a great place to enjoy the fall colors near Almaty city.

Poorly managed, very much short of 4 stars

In theory this can be 4+ stars luxury resort but it seems not managed well. Few examples of what should not be acceptable for 4 star hotels; 1. Lift stopped working after first day and was not repaired for rest of the week. Reception didn't seem to care and didn't even apologise or indicate if/when it will be repaired. 2. Advertised as SPA resort but for whole duration of my stay it was not possible to book any massage or treatment as SPA staff was busy yet the hotel was nearly empty. Then it turned out SPA staff is shared with some other location and probably can't be bothered traveling to this remote out of city location for just 1 customer in nearly empty hotel. 3. Wifi signal was solid but internet connection behind it disappeared for last 2 days of my stay, was never fixed. 4. Steam room was closed for 'urgent maintenance' for whole duration of stay and no signs of anyone performing any maintenance. 5. Telephone in room didn't work so every time there is an issue (of which there were plenty) walk up and down 4 floors (also no elevator) 6. When power goes out for few hours (normal in Kazachstan) the emergency generators kicks in but only powers the lights, no power sockets so this means minibar freezer melts causing a little flood and if your smartphone is empty you have no way of recharging it 7. Before I submitted a correction on google maps, even the location coordinates were off by >1km further away in the street causing issues with Uber and taxi pickups...

Favourite Almaty hotel

Really comfortable stay. I have come many times over the last 5 years and really enjoy staying here. Good spar facilities and wonderful mountain views. friendly and supportive staff. Reasonable breakfast and lunch/dinner menu. Will be going again.

Picturesque location! Rock hard beds!

My room was a surprisingly spacious, beautifully furnished superior double with a very clean, well equipped. The downsides to the room were the lack of tea/coffee making facilities, the TV could only be watched in Russian (of which I understand very little!) and the bed was as hard as a concrete slab! The latter issue was rectified very efficiently by the very helpful gentleman at the front desk, Madi, who organised mattress pads for myself and my travel companion. The spa treatments were great but difficult to book, largely due to the language barrier! Dewi, in the spa, gave a great Turkish Massage and Ruslan, at the spa reception, was very professional, providing everything needed. A special mention is also required for the two young gentlemen who served us at breakfast and for room service, both were personable, polite and very helpful. The restaurant on the 5th floor was underwhelming. The Samal restaurant next door provided a much greater range and quality and was much more in keeping with the decor and atmosphere of the hotel. The hotel is located close enough to walk back from the gondolas at Medeu, which service the Shymbulak Ski Resort, and well worth the picturesque views along the way. Taxis to and from the city centre, and Medeu, were relatively expensive, but still significantly more reasonable than taxi prices in a European city. Overall, our stay was quite pleasant and worth a return visit.

Best mountain resort within reach of Almaty

I stayed at this hotel for three days. Even though the resort is about 15 min taxi ride from downtown Almaty, its proximity to the Almaty ski resort and cable car, its crisp mountain air, and its outstanding service from front desk staffs like Khymkarian and Kharasan make the stay really memorable! Rooms are tastefully decorated with Islamic art reminiscent of a by -gone era of Kazakhstan! Room is large, comfortable and clean. Food at the Samal restaurant is as authentic as it can be and very delicious. Breakfast is a good mix of hot and cold dishes that tastes really good! Relaxing time near the mountains

We had a wonderful time in Samal Resort & Spa. Nice and clean rooms, good restaurant and a peaceful basement for a very relaxing time. Just a few minutes by car from the Almaty center, and a few minutes walking from Gondola cableway to Shymbulak.
