This is a nice hotel that has been updated. The lobby area has an elegant feel. Our room was nice - a bit cramped with the king size bed but otherwise very good. It was clean and quiet. We were late in arriving (right at 10 pm) but the lady who greeted us was very kind and took the time to show us where to park, where breakfast would be, etc. Breakfast was good too. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

Nice restored old hotel, but not made too fancy. Walking distance of several restaurants. Easy access to to Monte Vista National Wildlife refuge so great place to stay for the annua sandhill crane festival. Decent breakfast.

If you like historic hotels with character, this is the place for you. It was truly a grand old hotel that still retains things like an elevator with a gate door, old fashioned cash registers, and beautiful wood carved furniture. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was good. That said, the hotel's glory days are clearly behind it and it is showing it's age, so if you like "new and shiny" this may not be the place for you.

We enjoyed our stay at this clean and well kept historic hotel during our visit to the annual Sandhill Crane Festival. It is conveniently located near eateries, wild life sanctuaries, and the glorious Sangre de Cristo mountains. For anyone who loves staying at old historic inns, the Monte Villa is ideal..

It is an almost 100 yr old hotel. The internet although they said they had it was nonexistent. "Local" tv didn't work. It was a Roku tv that had no programming. The continental breakfast was just ok; watery scrambled eggs, luke warm potatoes and barely warm sausage. There were signs all over with rules, rules and rules. Next time we'll stay somewhere else.

Right down town. Close to everything. They have done a good job with a very old hotel making it comfortable. rooms are tight but it works. The hallways and sitting areas were restored beautifully and felt authentic. Very nice breakfast.

We stayed here for the Crane Festival and reserved one of the last rooms they had available. It was very affordable! I will say that the room was very clean and quiet. My only complaint is that the TV situation leaves much to be desired. It changed channels and settings randomly. The heating/cooling unit was also not great. It was a portable unit that was very loud. I say all of this while acknowledging that this is a very small town and a very old building. They are working with what they've got!

How shall I describe it? It’s antique and unique… not your usual name brand but so much has been provided for your comfort. The room is small but the bed was comfortable and clean. Bathroom small and quaint but clean and good hot water. Yes we’d stay again. 🙂
