This was the most absolutely disgusting lodging experience I have ever had. One word sums up this hotel perfectly: DIRTY. The sink had old watermarks and toothpaste from the previous guest. There was dust, stains, dirt, and rust everywhere. The bathroom was exceptionally bad, worse than a public bathroom. It is clear that they have never once wiped or disinfected surfaces in the room. The futons were so thin that it felt like you were sleeping straight on the ground. The room also had a horrible public bathroom smell that didn’t go away. The staff was nice but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially given the high price. We got out as soon as we possibly could.

The hotel is definitely unique! i requested a non-smoking japanese style room which they did provided! i honestly loved the view of the Lask Ashi from my room! The staff was friendly and definitely helpful! I made a mistake of booking a smoking room, but i needed a non-smoking room, which they easily changed it to that when i emailed in regards of my booking mistakes. Their onsen are phenomenal! they had an indoor onsen and outdoor onsen, tried both and i think i love the outdoor onsen over the indoor ones(just a personal preference) I guess my only downside for this hotel is the housekeeping, i did stay for 4 days and 3 nights, it didnt seem that they do any housekeeping at all? luckily i had some plastic bags that i used as a garbage bags(there was also some garbage can in my room, but it didnt look like its enough, since there was no housekeeping during my stays. The room is a little outdated, could really use some renovations in my opinion. But other than those, i would definitely come back to this place and hopefully it gets some improvements in regards of housekeeping and renovations. Oh, they also have some sort of curfew before they locked their doors. If i remember correctly there are 2 doors that you can get in, the main big door which closes at 21:00 pm, and the small door besides it that closes at 23:00 pm, so if you are planning on staying to this place, those are the hours before they close the doors for the night(Ya, it kind of weirds me out regards of curfew)

Old style Japanese hotel, with futon bed and hot baths. Nearby the Hakone shrine and lake view, short walk to the left to see Mt. Fuji. Try and go there to view it around sunrise and/or sunset. Hakone shrine is lit up in the early evening and no one around! If you spend a few days in Hakone get the Hakone Free pass. If only taking the bus to and from the hotel just pay the bus fare which is cheaper. To get there take bes H from odawarra station, bus can get very crowded

Hotel has a great location with great view of the lake and the the temple gate. However, condition is terrible. We checked in on a warm afternoon and the AC barely functioned. Staffs had to brought in a fan which barely helped. They told us to leave the room door open as the air in the hallway was cooler. That is not a good idea for a a hotel. Other parts of the room were also old, broken, torn, etc. The condition of the room

This was a traditional Japanese hotel in a beautiful location. The staff were very friendly. The room whilst a little tired was very comfortable. We received a truly Japanese experience given a welcome green tea on arrival. The breakfast was presented beautifully with a choice of western style or Japanese. The hotel also had an onsen with kimonos supplied. Only better WiFi would have improved our stay. I can highly recommend this hotel

Disappointing hotel in quiet Motohakone
The hotel is in a good location, right in the centre of the quiet Motohakone and on the lake. Our room had a good view of the lake itself but unfortunately the hotel and in particular our room, smelled very strongly of ammonia. The general condition of the hotel felt quiet out-dated and in need of renovation. The cleanliness of the room could be improved, the shower was not clean and the shower curtain had mould growing on it. The view of the lake from the room would have been better if the windows had been cleaned. The hotel staff were very sweet and friendly and tried their best to make us welcome however I would not stay at this hotel again unless some major rework happened first.

Dated and moldy...and pricey? PASS!
Super nice people but wow is this place a dump! There was a ton of mold on the ceiling. The place is super outdated in all regards. Icky carpet, dirty walls, faint smell of cigarette smoke absolutely everywhere. It’s just way too expensive for these kind of conditions. Right by the water and the onsen is nice to have but I’m sure there are WAY better places. I feel bad writing such a bad review because they’re so nice but it’s a rip off — they’re charging far too much for such a yukky place.

Nice hotel with decent size onsen
All the hotel staff were very friendly, and some staff served dinner in our room. The dinner was very delicious and each serving portion was above expectation, although me and my spouse normally take more than little. The hotel was very close to the bus station, and it helped our walking distance as we arrived and checked in to the hotel. However the onsen in the hotel was a decent size and not as big as comparing to those available elsewhere. Also the lift in the hotel was quite small, and it could fit up to 3 adults and 2 luggage bags at most. Overall, very satisfied with this hotel.

Disapppointing experience with smelly toilet
The toilet has a strong smell which I think was caused by the bad drainage system. You wouldn’t want to use it at all. And the basin is smaller than normal size. The location is good though as it is close to the pier and restaurants nearby. The spa was good, there is a small one in the outdoor and a big one in the indoor. As it was quite windly at night, you can hear the strong wind shaking the windows all night. It was so noisy that I can hardly sleep. The dinner was beautiful but does not taste good. Breakfast was much better. A merit is that they have staff that speak Chinese.

Smarter than your average hotel!
As a westerner it's easy to feel apprehensive about this style Inn, but it really was a different yet great experience. Easy to reach by direct bus from Odawara, and overlooking the beautiful lake. We opted for half board and the staff are just fantastic- so very helpful and accommodating, and really keen to ensure you enjoy your time at their Ryokan. If you want to experience Japan the traditional way (i.e. futon bedding, dinners, and onsen!) this is the place to go!

Unique Japanese-Style experience
We enjoyed sleeping on Japanese futons and the experience of having traditional Japanese dinner in room was great. The lake view was beautiful. The hotel is very close to Hakone Shrine, easy walking. The open air hot springs was also a great experience. The only downside was the room had a little damp smell. I would recommend this hotel for a family stay.

even though our room was booked for the mountain view, we could see both mountains and the late. so, the view was great. and, the port was just right in front, 0 minute walk. good hot springs. however, there are only 1 or 2 restaurants open after 3 pm around there, so better think and decide about the dinner beforehand. there is 7eleven open 24 hours i 2 or 3 minute walk distance.

Traditional Japanese experience
Hotel Musashiya is on Lake Ashi, in a little town called Moto Hakone. It's about an hour from Odawara trains station (a little less from Hakone Yumoto train station) by bus along a mountain road, passing through other small towns in the Hakone region. The hotel is small but will give you the Japanese experience... Sleeping on a futon on a tatami mat, dinner on a Japanese height table. The bathroom is tiny bit functional, however the onsen is fantastic and allows you to relax after a day of exploring. The people who run it are extremely friendly and helpful. Points to consider... The town is small and most eating places close at 5pm. The hotel has a limited menu for dinner and there is an Italian restaurant down the road open to 8pm (1930 last order, but it does get busy). Otherwise, dinner will be what's available at 7-11 or in the next town. If you're there for the day, get the Hakone area pass. It allows you use of the bus and ferry, which is handy if you wish to visit the other towns in the area.
