Green Point Park Tours

Green Point Park which includes golf and a lake or waterhole

This urban green space is a family-friendly venue home to children’s play areas, a biodiversity garden, exercise stations and picnic grounds.

Participate in educational and recreational activities amid beautiful surroundings at Green Point Park. See a wide variety of bird and plant species, enjoy picturesque picnics and admire views of major Cape Town landmarks. Green Point Park sits on 31 acres (12 hectares) of land formerly occupied by the neglected Green Point Common. It is part of the Green Goal 2010 environmental project, which sought to improve areas of the city in preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The park features a network of paved walkways and bridges winding around grassy lawns and a natural lake. Scattered along the walkways, find wooden benches, perfect for stopping for a rest. Spot natural landmarks, such as Lion’s Head, Signal Hill and Table Mountain, in addition to the modern Cape Town Stadium. Observe native birds, including the Cape sparrow, Cape wagtail, common fiscal and red-knobbed coot.

Go to the Biodiversity Showcase Garden section to see displays of 300 local plant species and thousands of examples of indigenous flowers, plants, shrubs and trees. Learn about the many species via interpretive signs. Look for artwork hidden among the flowerbeds and plant displays. Paid guided tours of the garden are available via the nearby Cape Town Stadium Visitor Centre.

Let your children have fun exploring the two playgrounds. The Tot-Lot Play Area has slides and swings for children up to 6 years old. The Adventure Play Park has a climbing frame and multiple slides for older children. Get active at the outdoor gymnasium or bring your own food to eat at one of the lakeside picnic tables.

Located in the Green Point neighborhood, the park is a 15-minute drive from Cape Town’s city center. A city sightseeing bus stops at the park’s entrance on Bay Road. Walk here from the Sea Point Promenade or Victoria and Albert Waterfront.

The park is open daily and admission is free. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. Security is present during opening hours. When you need a break from activities in Cape Town, enjoy Green Point Park, one of the prettiest green spaces in the city.
