The River Street Inn? No! Why? Well – to be frank - the front of house staff are incompetent and the hotel itself is over-rated. Prior to my visit, I wondered if mail could be received using the hotel as a ‘care of address'. Due to no email reply, I was forced to ring the hotel from Europe to receive confirmation of this. Fortunately, I was informed that it was possible, but a month later, when I checked in at the hotel, I was then informed that any mail received in advance of a visit would not be kept for more than a few days, so any mail that had been sent to me was now gone. Also, the “VIP” room was rather kitsch with its reproduction furniture, which was quite impractical to put clothes in and did not serve much purpose at all. Moreover, there was no refrigerator and the coffee making facilities were poor. Additionally, the hotel is on a busy street so both car and pedestrian traffic disturb guests’ sleep. Consequently, I avoided the hotel as much as I could, only returning late in the evening to sleep. One further problem is that a charge placed on a credit/debit card for “incidentals” when checking in may take some time to have removed once you have checked out; I am still waiting for this to happen; two weeks later. I have contacted the hotel by email and another expensive call from Europe to get these charges off my card, but that is still pending. One saving grace for the hotel is its cleaning staff, who I found friendly, charming and a pleasure to meet and talk to.
