The hotel is not at the downtown Kyoto and not 100% a tourist-friendly location, this is clear. However there is a metro station right next to it and more to me, we were driving so it was no problem for us at all. In fact we chose this hotel because we could enjoy free-of-charge parking (free parking at outdoor lot). It seems a typical grand hotel in Japan, which obviously though it has enjoyed quite a period of history already.
The room was so large and spaceful that probably no one would deny it. I booked the cheapest type of double room but I enjoyed sofa set, a huge washroom with both standing and tub settings, it was simply spaceful.
One thing that might worth questioning was the air conditioning. We came in town in late Feb and the weather was cool at night (Not cold though), but we failed to turn on the cooling. We suspect the hotel turned on heating instead of cooling in winter season, or it was out of control. I do not want to be biased so it was simply an unanswered question (We arrived at the hotel almost at 12 midnight and we were too tired to go down to look for staff, but we opened the window and it was totally fine for us).
The room setting might be a bit outdated (not modern furbishment at least), but everything is still very comfortable and it was a great hotel stay afterall
