I can best describe the hotel as tired. It is in desperate need of some TLC. Checkin started to assume aspects of Basil Fawlty when a member of staff my wife spoke to about checking in told her that he would be along shortly as he was talking to someone! Then a different person tried to check us in but couldn't get the computer to work, before then going to a second person who was trying to check in. However, at last the conversation holder arrived and managed to sort things out.. The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable and the lovely white fluffy towels were wonderful. Sadly that is where the positive comments cease. The carpet is long overdue for replacement, the chair had damage to the seat resembling a hole, the walls were inn a decent state of decoration, but the gloss paint was flaking on windowsills, door frames etc. There were brown stains on part of the ceiling and on one wall as though from a water leak. The towel rail in the bathroom was quite rusty and there were black marks, possibly from mould, in the shower. We didn't eat there apart from breakfast, and the full English could not be faulted, and it was clearly freshly cooked to order. That said, it did take 30 minutes from ordering to delivery. Understandable if the dining room was busy, but it wasn't. Would we stay there again? Definitely not.
