North Beach Tours

Norte Beach showing tropical scenes, general coastal views and a beach bar
While away a day at Isla Mujeres’ best beach, a paradise of powdery white sand, shallow transparent water and sublime sunsets.

The crushed coral sand of Norte Beach (Playa Norte) wraps around the northeast coastline of Isla Mujeres. This is the picture-perfect image of the island often seen on travel brochures. Just a short walk from the main commercial zone, Norte Beach is frequented by families, sun worshippers and watersport lovers alike. It’s also one of the finest locations on the island for watching the sunset.

Framed by lush greenery and with the crystal-clear water of the Caribbean Sea lapping at the shores, this is a place to forget your worries and bask amid the beauty of Mother Nature. Set up your towel and wriggle your body into the soft sand. Deckchairs, sunbeds and umbrellas are available to rent in front of the beach bars and restaurants. With a cold beer, cocktail or fruit juice in hand the bars are great vantage points for enjoying the views and watching as the sun drifts down behind the mainland.

Unlike the other beaches on Isla Mujeres, the water here remains shallow for several hundred meters from the shoreline. This makes it ideal for families with young children. Wade out into the sea and then look down to see schools of tropical fish and sea turtles. Bring snorkeling equipment to get an even better view of the multicolored marine life.

Located in the Centro district, Norte Beach is just 10 minutes on foot from the island’s ferry terminal. Parking is possible on the streets that lead to the beach. Restaurants in the Centro district serve typical Mexican dishes and freshly caught seafood. Check out the ocean-themed murals that decorate walls and the sides of buildings here.

Boasting year-round mild temperatures, Norte Beach is a destination for all seasons. Arrive at the beach early in the day during the peak season months of January to April to guarantee a prime spot. The continuation of the beach is Playa Sol, which offers more of the same coastal utopia.

Very nice, parts loud with bar music, other parts quieter. Many areas of shade, unlike Playa or Holbox. Caution for hard/sharp items that just stick out of the sand; they are easy to miss and run into if you do not pay attention to where you tread.
