Kunsthaus Zurich Tours

Kunsthaus Zurich featuring a square or plaza and heritage architecture
Spot works from the 15th century onward and pieces by Matisse, Picasso and Rembrandt, among other greats at one of Switzerland’s most significant art museums.

With a catalog that spans from the Middle Ages until the present day, the Kunsthaus Zürich is a leading Swiss art gallery. Admire works by Old Masters, revered national painters and up-and-coming artists. Discover an extensive collection of drawings, prints, photography and audiovisual installations. The Kunsthaus Zürich was established in 1910 by the Kunstgesellschaft, an art group that has been collecting art pieces since 1787.

The painting and sculptures collection features works that date back to the late-gothic era of the 15th century. See masterpieces by members of the Dutch Golden Age, including Jan van de Cappelle and Rembrandt. Study one of the biggest ensembles of Edvard Munch paintings outside of Norway. Appreciate the talents of acclaimed Swiss artists such as Johann Heinrich Fuseli. Scrutinize modern art by Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí.

Browse a selection of the 95,000 pieces that make up the prints and drawings collection. Major highlights are J.M. William Turner’s A Fete Day in Zurich, Early Morning and Paul Cézanne’s Baumstudie. Don’t miss the objects that celebrate the Dada movement, which began in Zurich in 1916. Peruse photographic collages and photograms that represent the Dada and surrealism genres.

Go to the library to read art history and study the museum’s complete online catalog. Hone your own artistic ability at painting workshops. Purchase art literature, posters and reproductions at the on-site shop.

Find the museum in the southeast corner of Zurich’s Old Town district. Trains and trams stop a short walk from the museum’s entrance. The shopping district of Bahnhofstrasse is a 15-minute walk to the west via the pretty Old Town streets. To the south is Quaianlagen, a harbor and waterfront park on the banks of Lake Zurich.

The Kunsthaus Zürich is open from Tuesday to Friday. Fees, which include an audio guide, are applicable for both the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. A combined ticket is also available. The modern art library is free and open from Monday to Friday. Find more information on the gallery’s official website.
