It was an excellent deal. Read the other reviews, so you have realistic expectations for your stay.
I was a bit concerned that it was going to be too good to be true, but it met or exceeded my expectations in every way. The continental breakfast had plenty of options, though not if you are gluten free. The hot water took a long time to arrive, but once it did it was plentiful. My room on the third floor had an internally mounted air conditioning unit. I ended up moving to a room on the first floor, and it had central air. The reception workers were pleasant, and management was responsive. My only recommendation is to bring long charging cords because the electrical outlets aren’t always conveniently located.
I am a relatively fit solo female traveller in her mid-fifties who likes to walk, and I thought the location was perfect. The Auberge is about an hour’s walk to downtown, Old Montreal, and the old port in one direction and about a 45 minute walk to the Botanical Gardens, the Biodomes, and the Instectarium in the other direction. Bus stops to or away from the Auberge are very close, and it is about a 15 minute walk to the nearest Metro station. I wandered around from about 9:00 am to about 9:30 pm and never felt unsafe. I spent a lot of time exploring the nearby neighbourhood of Hochelaga and highly recommend checking it out.
As long as the pricing stays reasonable, I would not hesitate to stay at the Auberge Manoir Ville Marie again.
